Friday Five: Civic Duties
Here’s the Friday Five for the Week. As election proganda is in overdrive, let us think about our own civic duty attempts.
1) How old were you when you voted for the first time? I have no idea. Probably 18. I did register not long after I turned 18 but since I can’t remember what I had for dinner last night, the odds of me remembering when I first voted some 15 years ago are slim. Now, if you are talking about non-official ballots, I do believe I voted when I was in 3rd grade regarding Joe Pena chances of "going out" with me. If I recall, I checked "maybe".
2) What was the contest at the top of the ballot? See my answer to question one.
3) Can you walk to your polling place? Yes, I can. Will I walk to my polling place? No, I won’t.
4) Have you ever run for public office? No. It will be a cold day somewhere notoriously hot when I run for public office.
5) Have you run for office in a club or school or on a board? I made the attempt to represent my freshmen class in college. Nice, big campaign. Gruel, small votes. Then my senior year of college I did serve as the president for the Student Missouri State Teachers Association. A good time.
